| For Wednesday, June 13 | | | SCRIPTURE READING: 2 Chronicles 20:1-4 | | | KEY VERSE: Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah (2 Chron. 20:3). | | | God's Direction | | In the late 1990s, Internet-based companies known as "dot-coms" exploded onto the market. The fever and pressure to invest into any promising dot-com swept the markets. Major companies dumped traditional business models for the sake of joining the dot-com craze, some even against strong advice otherwise. Unfortunately, by the dawn of the year 2002, most of these dot-coms went belly up, costing many overnight millionaires their entire fortunes.
When faced by the fact that a massive army was bearing down on him, Jehoshaphat did the last thing most leaders would have done. Rather than responding to the immediate need of preparing his army for certain war, he chose to have a nationwide prayer meeting. Most rulers would not have waited. As the investors into the dot-com era of modernity jumped before they knew the costs, at the least sign of danger in Jehoshaphat's day, other leaders would have swung into defense mode and marched off to war, prepared or not. But not Jehoshaphat. He turned to the God he had learned to trust implicitly for direction.
What is your reaction when faced with overwhelming pressure? Do you jump at the first logical solution available? Or do you turn to God for direction? God desires the second response. | | -Jeff Edmondson | | | SING TO THE LORD | The crown awaits the conquest; Lead on, O God of might. | | "Lead On, O King Eternal" by Ernest W.
